Giveaway - Bea's Gift Baskets and Gifts

I gave my Mom this beautiful gift basket from Bea's Gift Baskets and Gifts as an early Mother's Day present! Bea's has agreed to give one of my readers a basket of their very own, up to a $50 value! Lucky me, lucky you, and lucky Mom ;)

It arrived yesterday and my Mom invited Rosie and me over to help her open it and ahem, test the tidbits.

This particular Mother's Day basket has cookies, chocolate and more, all in a cherry blossom container. When Rosie tasted the cookies, she said, enthusiastically, "These cookies are FANTASTIC!" They have the Rosie-Seal-Of-Approval.

What a sweet treat for any deserving Mom! or Grandma! Do you have a special person in your life that you would love to surprise? Or better yet, how about treating yourself?!

One of the things that often puts a gift basket out of reach for my budget is the shipping and handling costs. But if you hurry, right now, Bea's is offering free shipping for all baskets or gifts over $50. This is a great savings!

You'll find an incredible selection of gift baskets for every occasion and every price range. From weddings to football games! There's New Baby, Graduation, Get Well, Pet Gifts, Thank You Gifts! and of course, Mother's Day! And don't forget the Dad's, Father's Day is right around the corner, June 20th!

What Does A Secure Woman Look Like?

Saturday I attended a simulcast of a session with Beth Moore about Facing Your Insecurity. Then this morning, I picked up my Grace for the Moment and today's message was Character Creates Courage. They were both saying the same thing in two different ways.

What makes us feel insecure? Have you had those days when you feel like everyone is looking at your hair and thinking, "does that woman own a mirror?" Or have you wanted to stay home, rather than go to a gathering because you don't have the right outfit? Have you wanted to stop something that is going on that you know is wrong but stay silent rather than speak out?

While I listened to Beth Moore, I started to analyze - what is insecurity - and I came up with a definition that it is fear. I didn't straighten out in my mind fear of what but the word, fear, stuck with me as a synonym for insecurity. So when I picked up Max Lucado's, Grace for the Moment, and the headline was "Character Creates Courage", a light bulb went off in my brain. Fear - Courage. Courage - Fear. Opposites. (Yes, Rosie is 4 and we play opposites a lot)

Mr. Lucado used a Psalms quotation: All you who put your hope in the Lord be strong and brave. Now, dear reader, if you are a Christian, you will find resonance in this post. But, if Bible study is not your thing, please keep reading anyway. This is about finding confidence and courage.

Confidence - knowing that it doesn't matter if our hair and clothes are perfect...
Courage - knowing that we can face our fear of new people, new circumstances...
Security - knowing we are safe and loved.

Security and courage don't come from outside things. It doesn't matter if we have the latest or greatest car, the latest or greatest designer shoes. Security and courage come from knowing we are loved. Loved by God. Loved by our family. Loved by our friends.

Find the courage to do the right thing and insecurity vanishes. Then we have the confidence to stand tall, to walk into any room. Then we have the courage to be proud of who we are.

What does a secure woman look like? Hopefully, you can answer, "me".

Giveaway - Mabel's Labels Camp/School Combo Pack

Looking cross-eyed at eight navy blue backpacks trying to figure out
which one belongs to your son?

Have you ever tried to find your daughter's pink ballet shoes in a pile at the dance studio?

Are you looking for labels because your child is going to camp?

Mabel's Labels to the rescue!
This is a necessity for every Mom and makes a great gift, too.

A Camp/School Combo Pack from Mabel's Labels arrived today and they are adorable! Okay, I admit it, I won't always do the best thing if it's not, dare I say the word, pretty. Sean shakes his head when I won't put one of those free ugly return address things on my bills because they're not, well, pretty. Rosie's clothes are so cute, I don't want to ruin them with an ugly reminds-me-of-prison label. I know, I know, it's on the inside, you say. But, it doesn't matter, I say, I know it's there.

Well, no worries with Mabel's Labels!!! They pass the pretty test for inside and outside! There are many designs and colors to choose from. We chose the Butterfly, with princess pink and purple - Rosie's favorite colors - but there are also many boy's and neutral themes, as well. I especially like the Ocean color grouping.

Okay, what was I saying? Oh, yeah, our Camp / School Combo Pack arrived today and we have already labeled: ballet shoes, tap shoes, soccer shin guards, princess backpack, princess athletic bag, Cinderella twisty straw cup, Ariel cup, jeans, sweat pants, t-shirts... Rosie is having a blast.

Rosie just picked up the Bag Tags that come in the set and said, "I wish I could have some of those." When I showed her that they had her name on them and they were hers, she squealed. Yes, actually squealed. We love cute things in our house ;) Once she's finished playing with them, they will be perfect for her backpack and bag.

Also in the Combo Pack were microwave and dishwasher durable labels, Tag-Mate clothing labels, and shoe labels. That covers all our needs! Oh, Rosie just said she wants to label her bike. I think we have a label for that too!

Do you have a child going to camp soon? On the Mabel's Labels site, I found a link to "Mama of Many's Guide to Camp". It's a free, downloadable guide written by Julie Cole, the founder of Mabel's Labels. "Packed with fresh ideas, links, a handy checklist, video clips,'MoM Tips' and more, this guide to summer camp is a must-read! "

The price of the Camp / School Combo Pack is $34. If this prevents you from losing one jacket or one shoe, you've recovered the cost.

Blogmania Pre-Party Giveaway - Jewelz by JL

Blogmania is a week from tomorrow!!! Are you getting excited??? Can you tell I am, hehehe??? There are over 100 blogs participating. Each one will have a giveaway, they'll all be numbered and you can hop from one to the next. How many can you visit?
To warm up those giveaway-entering-fingers, I'm starting early with a jewelry giveaway!

Jewelz by JL offers beautiful AND affordable jewelry. Time to stock up on earrings! I own these, and love them.

Oh, and why not a bracelet or two? Mother's Day is coming up, treat yourself! This is perfect for summer, don't you think?

Q: JL, how did you start making jewelry?

JL: Jewelz by JL was born in late 2007. It all began with a gift (a dichroic pendant) from my Dad and Anna. I was mesmerized with the beauty of this medium and thought I can make something like this. A visit to Michael's bead aisle and I was hooked! I find it very therapeutic and it gives me the opportunity to stretch my imagination to create one of a kind pieces. The rest is history.

Q: Why do you have several designs with spots?

JL: Aside from my fascination with "Jewelz", I have been active in showing and breeding Dalmatians since 2001. My Dogs and Jewelry will always be a part of my life. One of my dogs was in an internet commercial for Coachmen RV's. To see more of my spotted babies, click here http://timelessdals.com/TimelessDalmatians/Home.html

Giveaway - Pillsbury Pizza and Game Night

Did you hear loud laughter between 7 and 8 o'clock tonite? The KLY family had a fun evening thanks to My Blog Spark and Pillsbury!

It was the first time we tried Pillsbury Pizza Crust and making our own pizza at home. We eat pizza at least once a week - but usually from carry-out or frozen. It was hilarious to see Rosie making a spaghetti smiley face on her part of the pizza! I had my olives, Sean loaded his with sausage. Grandma and Grandpa looked on, shaking their heads and laughing. We had good-natured rivalry and all boasted about our pizza making skills, but agreed at the end that it was all delicious. Rosie and Grandpa even sang a duet, "when the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, it's AMORE." We will definitely be doing this again, our family, or for even more fun, with guests!

Our package also included a Pictureka game from Hasbro. Have you been to the Family Game Night website? They have great tips, recipes, and an age-appropriate game guide.
Click here for money saving coupons from Pillsbury. One of Sean's favorites is stuffed crust pizza and you can also find a a video tutorial there on how to make that special treat!

Would you like to win a Pillsbury Pizza and Game Night package of your own?

Crystal Bowersox, quitting American Idol???

Crystal Bowersox, who some consider the front-runner, almost quit American Idol! According to reports on Access Hollywood, she was ready to throw in the towel and return to her family in Ohio.

The pressures of a show like American Idol must be incredible. Performers, usually very young, are put under extreme scrutiny. Crystal was born in August, 1985, making her 25 years old.

Do you remember last month when they switched the women to performing after the men, so Crystal could recuperate from an illness? She seems to be having a difficult time, but the show producers obviously are impressed with her talent.

Ryan Seacrest gave Crystal a pep talk in the parking lot following the taping of the show in front of a group of people. "What's the point?" Crystal asked him. When he said, "The greatest thing I ever did was make enough money so I could buy my mom a house. You can buy your mom a house." perhaps he gave her something to keep her motivated to continue.

If you had the opportunity to make a lot of money, but it was going to mean sacrifice and surviving a stressful time, what would motivate you to keep going? What would you use the money to do, making it all worth it?

Lowe's Build and Grow Clinic Experience

We loved the Build and Grow Clinic at Lowe's this morning. Rosie felt very strong as she pounded in nails. She was so proud of herself seeing her planter take shape. I even heard Rosie say, "I want to be a builder when I grow up." High Praise!

We arrived at Lowe's and asked the person at the door where to go for Build and Grow. She said, "Follow the noise!". Thirty or more kids pounding in nails is a bit of noise ;)

A kit with instructions and pieces of the planter was given to each child. We asked and were also given an apron and goggles. The children looked adorable in their builder outfits.

The favorite thing for Rosie, other than pounding nails, was the "badge". Each child was given a embroidered-type patch. Some children had quite a few patches on their aprons and Rosie was fascinated by the challenge of adding what-she-calls badges.

Suggestions (if Lowe's is listening): Staff this event with people who like being around children and have fun helping them to learn. Provide someone to show construction of the project, rather than just having parents read the instructions. Next week, we are going to try a different Lowe's store and we're going to arrive a little late to avoid the crowd.

Bottom line: This is a great program. The kids were learning basic assembly, use of tools, safety, patience (me, too, hehehe), following instructions, and the feeling of satisfaction from building something.

We enjoyed it very much and are already signed up for next week!

I read about this event online. I was not compensated or asked to write a review. We received no other products or services beyond what all participants were given. All opinions are my own and my family's.

Here, at KLY, we'll be giving away two prizes-

1. The book and CD, The Kissing Hand, by Audrey Penn. It comes with
* a copy of the book,
* a CD with the story performed by Heather Koren (both with and without page-turn signals),
* a reusable case for storage,
* and an original "Chester's Song" to learn and sing.

From Publisher's Weekly: In her foreword to Penn's sugary tale about Chester, a young raccoon who would rather stay at home than go to school, Jean Kennedy Smith notes that the story is "for any child who confronts a difficult situation, and for the child within each of us who sometimes needs reassurance." Its obvious message is delivered by Mrs. Raccoon, who tells her son that "I know a wonderful secret that will make your nights at school seem as warm and cozy as your days at home." She then kisses his palm, and Chester feels the kiss "rush from his hand, up his arm, and into his heart." Whenever he gets lonely, she advises, he is to press his hand to his cheek and "that very kiss will jump to your face and fill you with toasty warm thoughts." As it may for youngsters in comparable situations, this "secret" works for Chester, who in turn kisses his mother's palm so that she, too, will be reassured. Sprinkled with hearts and flowers, Harper and Leak's paintings of the raccoons and their woodland habitat are pleasant if sentimental. Ages 3-8.

MYSTERY PRIZE! (Translation, I don't know yet, hehehe, but it'll be good!)

Clackity-Clack! Ride The Rails!

Rosie: Shift your gears, Mom, let's ride the rails!

Mommy: La,la,la, hum, hum, Chuggington, chugga, chugga, chugga, chugga, Chuggington.....

Rosie: Can't catch me, I'm a Koko!

Are you hearing this at your house?

Chuggington, a Disney Playhouse television show, was recently introduced in the US. It's become one of Rosie's new favorites. We've DVR'd every episode and it's her go-to choice.

The main characters are trains - chuggers. Wilson, Koko and Brewster are young "trainees" learning skills that every train car needs to know, but more importantly - how to learn, work and play together.

Designed for children aged three to six, but I have to admit, I don't mind watching it myself *blush*. The computer-generated animation is easy to watch, the stories are cute and I find myself chuckling here and there. With positive messages, I can relax and let Rosie enjoy watching.

Chuggington? In our house, it's "TRAINTASTIC!"

What is your child's favorite tv show? What do you hope to see in children's programming?

Drop Dead Diva Season Premiere June 6th

Lifetime TV tricked me..... and I'm glad.

I'm a big fan of the Lifetime TV show Army Wives and always DVR it. At the end of Army Wives, the recording usually has the beginning of the show following. I got hooked on watching that show too - and I'm glad.

Drop Dead Diva follows Army Wives on Sunday nights and it's one of my favorite shows. Have you ever watched it? If not, here's a quick catch-up of the story. Brook Elliott plays Jane Bingum and Deb Dobson. Well, sort of. Deb Dobson was a wanna-be-model who was killed in a car accident, but instead of dying she moved... into Jane Bingum's body. Okay stay with me here. Now Jane Bingum is Jane Bingum on the outside and Deb Dobson on the inside but with the brain of brilliant lawyer, Jane Bingum. Oh, I don't think this is going well. You will just have to watch!

The rest of the cast is every bit as good as the star. Margaret Cho, plays Jane's assistant, hard edged, smart, and funny. April Bowlby plays Jane's best friend, Stacy, one of the only people who know what happened to Deb/Jane. Kate Levering, Jackson Hurst, Josh Stamberg, and Ben Feldman round out the ensemble cast.

Part of what makes Drop Dead Diva so fun is the celebrity guest stars. There was a particularly funny episode when Jane has to prove that the quirky Gregory Harrison is sane despite his extremely odd behavior including wearing pajamas (or nothing!) to court.

While I thought the series started out a bit silly, it develops more and more into an interesting court room show with well-developed characters. And it seems to improve with age, as they say.

Lifetime sent me an advanced copy of the season premiere, scheduled for June 6th and it's a great episode. At the end of the last season, Jane's husband (know one knew she had a husband, including Jane) showed up, and she was facing disbarment. In the first episode of the new season we find out why the husband and she goes to court for the disbarment. But, I'm not going to spoil the surprise, you'll have to watch! Paula Abdul makes a guest appearance and of course, with Paula there has to be music and dancing, right?

On Sunday, May 30th, Lifetime will air an all-day marathon of the first season of Drop Dead Diva, starting at 10am ET. The new season premieres Sunday, June 6th, 9PM ET - Don't miss it!

What's at the movies? Alice In Wonderland

I just wrote my first guest post - thank you to Traci at "I'd Let My Kids See That" for publishing my review of Alice In Wonderland. Traci loves "... when a kid's movie is enjoyable to the adults in the room ("Up", anyone?). And because of that I hate when age-inappropriate content pops up (I'm looking at you, "Shrek"!)." She reviews current and DVD movies - quality, kid perspective and "warns you of any unpleasant surprises."

Have you seen, "Alice In Wonderland"? Read my review and let me know if you agree!

Going to the movies this weekend? Check out my review of How To Train Your Dragon before you go. Hint, hint.
