Lowe's Build and Grow Clinic Experience
We loved the Build and Grow Clinic at Lowe's this morning. Rosie felt very strong as she pounded in nails. She was so proud of herself seeing her planter take shape. I even heard Rosie say, "I want to be a builder when I grow up." High Praise!
We arrived at Lowe's and asked the person at the door where to go for Build and Grow. She said, "Follow the noise!". Thirty or more kids pounding in nails is a bit of noise ;)
A kit with instructions and pieces of the planter was given to each child. We asked and were also given an apron and goggles. The children looked adorable in their builder outfits.
The favorite thing for Rosie, other than pounding nails, was the "badge". Each child was given a embroidered-type patch. Some children had quite a few patches on their aprons and Rosie was fascinated by the challenge of adding what-she-calls badges.
Suggestions (if Lowe's is listening): Staff this event with people who like being around children and have fun helping them to learn. Provide someone to show construction of the project, rather than just having parents read the instructions. Next week, we are going to try a different Lowe's store and we're going to arrive a little late to avoid the crowd.
Bottom line: This is a great program. The kids were learning basic assembly, use of tools, safety, patience (me, too, hehehe), following instructions, and the feeling of satisfaction from building something.
We enjoyed it very much and are already signed up for next week!
I read about this event online. I was not compensated or asked to write a review. We received no other products or services beyond what all participants were given. All opinions are my own and my family's.
